We  have come to the last, and most special candle in our Advent wreath.  This Sunday we will light the white candle in the center, known as the “Christ Candle.” This candle is also  referred to as the “Candle of Love.”

As your family lights each candle leading up to this one, remind them what each candle is called and what it stands for: the first candle was the “Candle of Expectation or Hope,” the second was the “Candle of the Way, the third was the “Candle of Joy,” or the “Shepherds Candle” and the one lit last week was the “Candle of Peace” or the “Angels Candle.”

The “Christ Candle” stands for Jesus Christ himself. It reminds us that God loved us enough to send his only son to Earth. Read John 3:16 with your family.

Make a list of what gifts you have been given as a family this year. What gifts have you given back to God and others? Remind your children that Jesus is the greatest gift of all – and his gift is free!

Christ uncrowned himself to crown us,

and put off his robes to put on our rags,

and came down from heaven

to keep us out of hell.

He fasted forty days that he might

feast us for all eternity;

he came from heaven to earth

that he might send us

from earth to heaven.
